Love selling food ingredients but want to be based at home (almost) all the time?

We get it. Whether it’s doing the school run, looking after your puppy or even just not wanting to spend your life on the motorway, there’s plenty of reasons why people don’t want to do classic “on the road” sales positions these days. But there’s not many jobs like that around.

This is a rare one. We’re looking for a Technical Sales Manager to be home-based, with minimal travel – probably around 5-10%, maximum.

This is a 1 year fixed term contract with a food ingredients supplier that has an awful lot of incoming enquiries. They have a strong reputation, some excellent marketing in place and a diverse product offering, so they deal with a really broad range of food & beverage manufacturers.

In this role, your main focus will be on dealing with all of those incoming enquiries. Is there a good commercial opportunity there? Is the proposal viable from a technical perspective? What does the pricing structure need to look like? What other opportunities might there be with this customer?

You’ll need to be probing into all of these areas to ensure that enquiries are managed properly, with the appropriate resources allocated.

In addition, you’ll also be responsible for a number of key customers, building strong relationships through video meetings and presentations, with a view to making each one feel fully supported, understood and ultimately, maximising commercial opportunities.

The person who gets this job will have 3+ years in a technical sales position in the food ingredients industry. Your main expertise might be in flavours, functional ingredients or nutritional ingredients – but being comfortable across multiple applications and categories would be highly beneficial. A decent technical understanding is important too – that might be evident from a Food Science degree or a year of two as a Technologist before you got into sales. Finally, you’ll be very comfortable with a host of software applications – if you’re asked to present a great PowerPoint presentation over Teams, that needs to be second nature to you already.
